Unpub Preview: Scrapmech
One of our upcoming events is Protospiel-Milwaukee (and Mid-West Unpub.) This is not an event I will be able to attend, and it is being managed by James Mathes of Minion Games. Games coming to Protospiel-Milwaukee register through a different entity, and by doing so don't get a page here on Unpub.net. This is our first time with this type of partnership and we're testing these policies out. One way we can support the games and designers coming to this event is through these previews. So, today we continue our series of previews of games coming to Protospiel- Milwaukee.
Today's game has one of the most interesting game types I've ever seen. Usually it's a deck building game or a worker placement game. Sometimes it's a dice rolling game or even a press your luck game. Scrapmech, designed by Carl Klutzke is a "Mech Building with Goblin Placement game." How can you not be in for something like that?
Let's hear what Carl has to say about this fairly unique little project...
What was your inspiration for Scrapmech? What if dwarves and elves etc. destroyed each other with giant war machines, and all that was left were the goblins, playing with the broken bits?
What is your favorite part of Scrapmech? Activating unexpected combinations of parts.
To your knowledge, What do other people find most interesting about Scrapmech? Talking in goblin voices.
What has been the most challenging part of designing this game? Making the interactions between the parts complex enough to be exciting, but simple enough to clearly understand.
What advice would you give to players attempting Scrapmech for the first time? Your first priority is to get all five goblins in your mech.
What has surprised you most in play-tests of your game? How much people like talking in goblin voices.
People who like____will like this game. Why? People who like complex card interactions, such as from Dominion, M:TG, or Sentinels of the Multiverse. People who like goblin-themed games, like Infernal Contraption.
What do you hope to accomplish at Protospiel-Milwaukee? I want help keeping the game short enough to play over a lunch break at work.
Check out Carl Klutzke's Scrapmech at Protospiel-Milwaukee on March 9 and 10!
