Unpub 3View: Rusted Bullet

As we head towards Unpub 3, I’m going to start previewing the games people will experience at the event.

Today we take a look at Rusted Bullet, by designer Garrett Herdter. This game has yet to secure a publisher, so if you are one and this sounds interesting to you, contact Garrett or...better yet, stop by Unpub 3!

Garrett filled out our form tell us more about Rusted Bullet, a card and dice game in which gamers play alien fighters in a futuristic post apocalyptic Earth battling to be the greatest warrior in the universe.

What type of Game is Rusted Bullet?  A Card and Dice Game.

What was your inspiration for Rusted Bullet? I was originally inspired by the card game "Bang!" and wanted to make a card game with similar interaction but with lots of dice and no player elimination.

What is your favorite part of  Rusted Bullet?  The dice mechanic. Each die represents a rusted bullet that is used to load your weapons as you attack other players. There is a limitation on the amount of ammunition in each game which brings a level of anticipation. I also love the way everyone is paying attention to what is happening all of the time. The is a lot of interaction between players.

To your knowledge, What do other people find most interesting about it?  The variety of cards and how you can play up to 6 players in about 45 minutes.

What has been the most challenging part of designing Rusted Bullet?  Getting the cards just right. There are a lot of cards in the game and they all interact differently with one another. You will have weapon cards, grenade cards, ration cards, building cards, event cards, ammunition cards, action cards and all kinds of equipment cards. Play testing has helped to make sure that all of these cards interact well.

What has surprised you most in play-tests of your game? People really like the theme.

People who like___________ will like this game. Why?  Bang, Cosmic Encounter, Cutthroat Caverns. They are fun games that have players with special abilities and cause you to go after one another.

Tell us anything else you want to say about the game that I haven't asked or you haven't said already. - I love this game. I have been working on it for a year now and have so much fun just playing it. It not only plays well with 2 players, but also just as great with up to 6. I can't wait to show it to more people at UNPUB 3!

The  Story of Rusted Bullet:  In the year 30XX the alien race, “The Hedonix” discovered Earth which had been abandoned after years of war.  It is here that the Hedonix have established their location for the greatest gladiatorial battles in the universe!  You are a competitor in these games and have long waited to finally see if you can be crowned the greatest fighter in the Universe.  The only way to win is to join a team and use the inferior weaponry that the Earthlings used so long ago.  On top of that, the Hedonistic Hedonix have only provided a small amount of ammunition and enjoy causing random acts of havoc on the field.  Can you earn the victory banners needed to be crowned the champion?  Load a rusted bullet into the chamber and get into the fray to find out!
