Unpub Preview: Draw!

As we move towards upcoming Unpub events we’re going to preview some of the games which will be exhibited.

One of the 7 games being presented at 7th Dimension Games on Saturday March 2 is Jay Treat's Draw!

Many of you are aware of Jay's catalog of designs and his presence at other Unpub events (and other events in general.)  He's also a contributor to the Hyperbole Games blog.  It should come as no surprise that he's come out with a new interesting design that people just can't wait to play.

Let's hear from Jay about his new western gunfight game Draw!

What was your inspiration for Draw! ? A kickass dream just like a Western film.

What is your favorite part of Draw!?  Accessibility. It builds off of one of the best known games—five card draw—and starts very quickly.

To your knowledge, What do other people find most interesting about Draw!? Building poker hands to blast bad guys with your six-shooters

What has been the most challenging part of designing Draw!? Maps. The game could be played abstractly, but multiplayer begs for maps where you can run for cover and outflank the opposition. Making maps that promote fun gameplay, look good and make sense has been a huge challenge.

What advice would you give to players attempting Draw! for the first time? Don't overthink it. Gunfighting is simple fun; the strategy will come.

What has surprised you most in play-tests of Draw! What seems intuitive vs. what is. How conservatively some play.

People who like_______will like Draw!. Bang! or tactical RPGs

What do you hope to accomplish at the Unpub Mini at 7Th Dimension Games on Saturday March 2? In addition to testing maps and general refinement, the big question I'm still investigating is whether Draw! should be a tabletop game, an RPG or some impossible hybrid.

Tell us anything else you want to say about Draw! that I haven't asked or you haven't said already.  The bits are fun: Playing cards and poker chips, dozens of plastic bullets and western-themed pieces.

I know there will be a lot of people "Draw!"ing at 7th Dimension games on Saturday March 2!
