Unpub 8 News

It is the moment you have been waiting for since St. Patty’s weekend! The details for Unpub 8 are here, and we are so very excited to finally share them with our wonderful community of designers, playtesters, publishers, and vendors. But before we do that, how about a little history lesson? As you may, or may not, be aware, Unpub started out in the humble little town of Woodside, Delaware in the community hall of a church. It then moved to an FOP lodge for a year, and then onto St. Thomas Moore High School’s cafeteria for two years. For Unpub 5, a change in locale and state was necessary to accommodate the growth of the organization and demand for more space to playtest games. It was at this point that we settled on the Baltimore Convention Center, which continued to be Unpub’s home for the last three years. The event has continued to grow in attendance every year. While the BCC has been good to us, we are always looking for what can be better for our designers and playtesters. Due to the high cost of hotels, parking, and food within the Convention Center and the city of Baltimore, the organization began to search for a more fiscally feasible home in 2016.  After a lengthy and careful search, Unpub found a new place for our community and we are beyond excited about the possibilities it has to offer!   We are extremely pleased to announce that Unpub 8 will be hosted at the Delta Hotels Baltimore Hunt Valley, formerly the Hunt Valley Inn, in Hunt Valley, Maryland, a suburb of Baltimore, from March 22-25, 2018. While the convention’s location has changed, our goals haven’t. We still want to ensure that designers have a place for their games to be tested. We fully expect your convention experience will be even better! All the hallmarks of our annual event will still be there. We’ll still have tables for designers, open gaming during off hours, and, of course, we’ll continue to have our fantastic vendors! To cap it all off, Unpub will continue to be accessible by light rail! We’ve just moved up the road a bit. But why the Delta Hotel? The hotel offered the Unpub community a sweet package. How does free parking sound? How does reasonably priced food, or having a hotel room literally attached to the event hall sound? In fact, the hotel is really Unpub’s from the top to the basement. Open gaming will keep going and going! We thought it sounded pretty great too. While Unpub is still paying a similar price to that of...

Unpub 8 F.A.Q.

When can I buy tickets? August 8, 2017 at 8:00pm ET. The link will be posted by August 5, 2017 and will go live on 8/8 @8!   Can I get into Unpub to play games without a ticket? A walk-in playtest? All are welcome starting on Friday, March 23rd at 3pm, and continuing on Saturday March 24th, from 10am to 7pm, and on Sunday March 25th, from 10am to 2pm. Any other time is considered open gaming, with the hall closing officially at 7pm on Sunday. Any other time, including Designer Day, requires purchasing a Designer or VIP ticket.   What are the differences between all the types of tickets? Designer Table – ($60) Designer Tables are a bit different this year. All tables are considered TAG tables. So each table purchased comes with 2 designer tickets and 1 table for two consecutive 4-hour blocks. Designers are permitted to purchase one table in each BLOCK, thus locking in a full event table. Two tables within the same BLOCK is not permissible. Designer tickets also guarantee two tickets for the Unpub Mixer on Thursday, March 22nd at 7pm. VIP Playtester – ($30) VIP Playtester ticket holders have access to all events and benefits of a designer ticket holder, but do not have access to a designer table. VIP Playtesters will also be invited to attend the Unpub Mixer on Thursday, March 22nd at 7pm. One ticket guarantees one admittance. Registered Playtester –  ($5) Registered playtesters have the same access as a general playtester, see below, but include a printed name tag and guaranteed Unpub gift. General Playtester – (FREE) General playtesters have free admission to the playtesting events and open gaming. As in years past, every submission of a feedback form via the unpub.net site, IOS app, or Android app, will count as one entry into a drawing for free games to take home!   What are the time frames for the tables? In the past,TAG tables have been split into AM/PM or PM/AM shifts. This year, we worked to form a schedule with less change over time, which also means less time a designer has to spend picking up or taking down his or her game. We have dubbed the new tag table times as BLOCK 1 and BLOCK 2. When purchasing a ticket, designers will be able to select from these two options unless one has sold out. BLOCK 1: Friday March 23rd from 3pm to 7pm and Saturday March 24th from 10am to 2pm BLOCK 2: Saturday March 24th from 3pm to 7pm and Sunday March 25th from 10am to 2pm Obviously, if a BLOCK 1...

**NOTE: We are aware you are currently unable to book the rooms online, please call them at the number and group code at the bottom of this page to book your room(s) until the hotel enables online registration. We apologize for the inconvenience. The Delta Hotels Hunt Valley location is really a one stop shop for Unpub. Not only do we have our own private and well-laid out space, which will save us from the Health Insurance Info Sessions and Cheerleading Competitions of the past, but it, well, let us just share a few of the highlights that sold us on the place. Parking: The hotel offers 900 free parking spots with a spillover lot if needed right next to the light rail – oh yeah, selling point #2, the light rail. Light Rail: It was between 25-30 minutes from BWI to the Convention Center, then another 15 minute walk to hotels. Now it’s a 75-80 minute ride but a far less walk! For all of the schedules for the Light Rail on both weekdays and weekends, please follow this link to the Maryland Transit Authority: https://mta.maryland.gov/light-rail Meeting Space: The ballroom is ours to play and outside it is surrounded by our vendors and sponsors. We will have a real coat check for designers, VIP guests, publishers, and vendors. We have private rooms for panels. Once we set up for the con we will be able to rock and roll, no more setting up Friday evening or early Saturday morning. Everything will be set up as of Friday morning. Food Options: Less than a mile walk from the hotel or a shuttle ride away, yes there is a free shuttle, is the Hunt Valley Towne Center. It holds all of the staples of a mall, a movie theater, plenty of food choices, and more. https://www.shophuntvalley.com/ There also are several restaurants within walking distance such as Texas Roadhouse, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, California Pizza Kitchen, and Outback Steakhouse. The Delta Hotel offers two casual restaurant featuring American Cuisine, the Polo Lounge & Bar and Cafe 245. Lodging: As this is considered to be a hotel and convention center, there are plenty of rooms and then some for anyone and his or her Uncle! Hotel room blocks are available for $129.00 a night plus tax. Double and single bed rooms are available on a first come first serve basis. Unpub at Origins Game Fair

Good Morning Fellow Gamers! As many of you are aware, we here at Unpub are busy preparing for our next ProtoAlley at Origins Game Fair in Columbus, Ohio! We’ve been a guerrilla feature at this convention for several years, and this year thanks to our awesome sponsor Renegade Games, we’ll be there in an official capacity! Origins will be at the Greater Columbus Convention Center (400 N High St, Columbus, OH 43215,) Starting Thursday June 15 through Sunday June 18, 2017. This is 5 full days of gaming and Unpub is proud to be in the heart of it all. Our rooms will be C171 and C172 and we’ll be active for at least 4 days of the Convention starting at 10am each morning. Thursday, Friday and Saturday we’ll play till 5pm. Each of those days consists of two shifts, 10am to 1pm, and 2pm- 5pm. Sunday starts at 10am like the other days, but it will end at 2pm and we only have one shift for designers to demo their games. We might be open for a period of time on Wednesday evening, as well…and we will look for other times to throw open the doors and hoist our noodle, so stay tuned to our social media for extra times! Registration for the event has been going on for a few weeks now, and we are excited about the 64 games currently registered from 41 different designers! As of this writing there is still space in every shift across the event for more designers. We have 28 tables each shift and while it looks like some shifts are full, there is still space due to the way things will adjust.  If you want to get involved Register your game for the event! Get on the waiting list if you have too. How do you Register?  If you’re in the system, hit the registration button to the right. Sign in using your username and password. Hit the event management link to your right. Select the shift you want and show up with your prototypes in hand! If you’re not in the system, the steps are identical…except you have to Sign up for an account and then enter your games into the system. If you have any questions reach out and we’ll do our best to help you. Word of warning: to get the best possible exposure for this event, get registered by midnight Sunday! We’ll be packing up the office and hitting the road, so the more we know before we do that, the better off everyone will be. We are very thankful for the opportunity to be present at a whole...
