Unpub Slogan Contest

UPDATE: Comments and submissions are now closed. The poll will be posted later today (Monday, May 12) Unpub needs a slogan, something that can sum up the program in a single sentence… or less. Sure, we could sit around and brainstorm ideas, but why not open up the floor to everyone? This is where we hope you come in. In the comments below, put your idea for a slogan (one slogan per comment). On Sunday, May 11, we will disable the comments and put up a poll May 12th. Voting will then commence until Thursday May 15 at 11:59. The winning slogan will be announced on Friday May 16th. The winner will receive: Bragging rights A copy of New Science (new) A copy of Compounded (new) A random game from our collection (new) Unpub 4 Promo cards pack Think that is enough to motivate you? What’s the Deal with Unpub 5?

There isn’t a day that goes by where I am not asked about Unpub 5. Will there be one? When will it be? Where will it be? Why the hold-up on announcing? With that said I totally understand, and appreciate, your enthusiasm and excitement for the next Unpub- in fact I welcome the questions. I don’t, however, want to leave you all in the dark. So let’s tackle these questions as they stand now, shall we? Will there be an Unpub 5? Yes Virginia, there is an Unpub 5. No, that is NOT a hint of where it is… but you can tell yourself it is if it makes you happier. 🙂 When will it be? Sadly, this is a bit difficult to answer at the moment. I can say, with almost 80% certainty that it will be in January (like all previous Unpubs). See below for more details on this. Where will it be? This is harder to say as every time we have gotten close to signing on the dotted line, the proverbial rug has been pulled out from under us. We are looking in 2 cities at the moment, one far more than the other. Why the hold-up on announcing? We thought we had a place locked down, only to see an insane price point for rental. So that was a no go. Then a better place came along, with a better price, but then became booked the weekend we were requesting (Martin Luther King weekend). So we requested 2 other weekends, and we are now in standstill as we wait to hear back from them. I will say this, they are being helpful and supportive… slow, but  helpful and supportive. I didn’t want to announce it in the past, and I am happy that I did not, as I didn’t want to recant locations, webpages, advertising, etc. I am waiting until we have a signed on the dotted line and everything is final. I am hoping it is soon… but as I stated they are busy and therefore tend to be slow in responding. Stephanie Straw is doing the leg work on this, and is doing an AMAZING job. She does large scale event planning for a living, so she is ensuring we get everything we need at a great rate. Unpub 5’s future would truly be an enigma without her help. This isn’t a request to ask her about Unpub 5, cause she won’t tell anyone anything (as I have asked her). So if you have questions, shoot them to me. Steph is working hard to finalize it all, and once that is done then (and only...

On the LONG and uneventful drive from PAX East 2014 (in Boston, MA) Darrell & Mike had an idea to record a ‘stream of thought podcast’ to help pass the time. This is the product of that idea. They are still driving (currently passing mile post 69.2 on the NJ TurnPike). Hopefully they’ll be home before you give this a listen. Sit back and enjoy Darrell & Mike discuss the drive, PAX East, Designers, Games, Publishers, and tired rambling. http://unpub.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Unpub_download_one.mp3 [right click this to download] NOTE: This is a stream of conscience and done on the road, with minimal editing. So there may be some NSFW content… keep the kiddies away just in case. UNPUB drops the UN!

UNPUB drops the UN!

Unpub is incredibly pleased to announce that a new direction is being headed, and we have new navigators to help us stay on course. Unpub has been acquired by Parker Brothers, of board game fame. With this acquisition, Unpub will be dropping the UN from our name to simply be known as PUB. The PUB name helps bring about a new era in board game awareness, and that is the often ignored published game. Sure, many people are aware of the tireless work, time, money, sweat, and tears it takes to design, develop, play test, redo, play test more, and shop a prototype; hell, everyone and their Mother knows and talks about it. Now it’s time to bring a spotlight to the unsung heroes, the heroes that make it onto the shelves at Toys R’ Us, Target, Wal-Mart, and so forth. The games that go untested and are just vomitted onto shelves and to family game nights. Games that are classics, such as Monopoly, Risk, Scrabble, Clue, and many many other brilliant games by the marvelous Parker Brothers that are just too forgettable to name. So it’s with great pleasure that PUB will continue to press forward, and showcase these awe-inspiring works of grand gaming. So go pick up your 8th copy of Monopoly and play knowing that you are bringing attention to a great cause, and a great group of board room executives. Long live the...
